Dybfølt“Even the most skilful gardener can find immense pleasure in wild flowers” ... Somewhere in a tiny bookstore in Boston there is an old dusty encyclopedia of folk music with this quote on the first page. It describes so beautifully what is so fantastic about folk music: it is a force of nature! ‘Continuo’ is the second album from the Danish string-duo Dybfølt consisting of Kirstine Elise Pedersen on cello and Mathæus Bech on double bass. Though they both have a classical background, they initially met playing nordic folk music, which has been the main focus of this album. All but one of the tracks are original, with the odd one out being a baroque piece by the french composer Marin Marais. The title ‘Continuo’ stems from the baroque music term basso continuo, which is a form of unspecified accompaniment-voice that can be played and improvised over by various instruments – often the lowest instruments, which seemed fitting to our modus operandi. It also alludes quite nicely to the fact that this is our second album and a continuation of our musical journey together.

Hi there, and welcome!
I’m Anna Kruse, a Swedish-Danish singer based in Copenhagen. For more than twenty years, I’ve been writing music and melodies inspired by the beautiful poetry of Edith Södergran. Her words feel as fresh and relevant today as ever, and I’ve made it my mission to help spread them to more ears and hearts around the world.
I’m hoping this platform can bring me a bit closer to you — the people who actually listen to the music. The songs live somewhere between jazz and folk, with room for both reflection and spontaneity.
Can’t wait to share it all with you!

DybføltA shared fascination for the underrated and overlooked Danish composer Rued Langgaard brought us together in this duo. There is something special about his music which transcends genres and traditions and lends itself to a wide variety of personal interpretations. We dived into his music by listening to recordings and transcribing them by ear, trying to distill each composition down to its essence (sometimes this would mean boiling a whole symphony down to a single page of melody and chords) and then approaching it in a new light, as if it was a piece of folk music. Creative choices has to be made when you are trying to play orchestral pieces with this unusual combination of cello and double bass, but we were elated by the intimate way in which these instruments speak together. It quickly escalated and suddenly we had enough material for an entire album. There is something deeply satisfying engaging with music in a tangible way, and while we could have made a CD or a vinyl record we chose to make it a book, because there are so many deeply interesting and dramatic stories surrounding Langgaards life. His music absolutely stands for itself, but it becomes even better once you dive into who he was as a person, how he was treated by his contemporaries, and how he was almost erased from history.
