It’s rather cloudy in Copenhagen and we spent the day recording strings, trying to blend the acoustic sound of the muted studio and the more hall like living room, using Cole to not overdo the high frequencies and Neumann tactile details, placing them right in the door between the two very different sonic rooms.

I’d like to invite you to a concert I’m performing at Skrå Scene, Huset Esbjerg, on Sunday, November 17th at 4:00 PM. Tickets are 50 DKK at the door, but I will give Inner Circle free tickets.
In this performance, I’ll be exploring the many nuances of the human voice, creating a space where music and sound blend into a poetic, timeless experience. Let the sounds speak in ways words can’t quite capture.
If you’re free that afternoon, it would mean a lot to see you there.
Warmly, Randi

Here the emotions are not just on the outside, they are blown out through the instruments and encloses the listener.” – David Dyrholm, Politiken (DK) Best Jazz on Bandcamp, November 2023 ” I have been unable to stop listening to BABEL. It has its hooks in me deep.” – Dave Sumner ★★★★★ “Masterpiece. Musically awesome, visually over the top. ..Ambitious Mark Solborg builds his own BABEL - Ivan Rod, Gaffa (DK) Nominated to a Danish Music Award Jazz, Jazzcomposer of the year 2024. A compositional investigation of musical languages and conversation. Is the myth of BABEL about God creating communicative discord to control man, or was the intent to nurture fertile diversity? A disruption of a self-perpetuating echo chamber, to stimulate a more varied and complex perspective of the world. Maybe she wanted to show us that we will find strength to solve the problems of the planet in each others differences and multiple talents, not in uniformity and polarisation? With his multilingual Danish/Argentinian background, travels, work and studies all over the world Solborg has experienced how the words, our idioms and mother tongues are deeply connected with our view of ourselves and the way we resonate with the surrounding world. In BABEL he seeks to investigate, illustrate and raise awareness of the continuous cross-cultural inter humane debate. A conversation that becomes increasingly important if we are to solve the challenges of our society and species. BABEL is based on Solborg’s TUNGEMÅL (meaning idiom or tongue) platform concerned with the guitar as a voice in contemporary chamber musical contexts. With this comprehensive project Solborg wishes to elaborate the intimate listening experience, and develop methods and tools for the creative work at hand. An extensive artistic study and qualifying awareness of the modern guitar in interplay with acoustic instruments, and the musical spaces they inhabit. In this next adventure solborgs music is handled by a wonderful and starry gathering of some of scandinavias finest musicians. 18 additional interviewed voices, speaking in multiple languages, are integrated into the rich textures of the music, creating a warm and unique garden of fables. Contemporary musical conversations like you’ve never heard it before. Meet Solborg and The Babelonians online, live or order the double 180g vinyl + extended booklet package for an exclusive experience. Enjoy!

What began as a one-off experiment in the Danish countryside has grown into something truly special. Here’s the story behind the Paper Trio and how it led to our upcoming release, Hippo Road, out on November 22nd.
It started when Thomas Agergaard was invited to perform at a paper museum in rural Denmark. The condition was that we had to incorporate actual paper sounds into the music. So, Greg Cohen, Thomas, and I rummaged through the studio, experimenting with paper—crinkling, tearing, tapping, and more.
With limited time to rehearse, we blended these textures into our trio’s usual sound. That night, the audience was drawn in by the raw, tactile nature of the paper. What started as a playful challenge turned into the foundation of the Paper Trio.
Inspired by that performance, we decided to explore further and took the project into the studio. Hippo Road captures those unique sounds—layering the rustle of handmade sheets and the rhythmic thump of paper machines into our improvisations. Each piece started with a simple mood or title, letting the sound guide us.
This project is about embracing creativity and finding beauty in constraints. We hope Hippo Road brings you the same sense of curiosity and joy that we felt while making it.
Mark your calendars for November 22nd—we can’t wait to share it with you.
