Imagine attending one concert – and experiencing six. In Small Concerti – Great Composers, Concerto Copenhagen invites you into the rich soundscape of the Baroque, where each work is a miniature concert on its own. With small ensembles but grand music, the focus is on the chamber music format – with virtuosity, intricate detail, and sensual interplay.
Under the direction of Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Concerto Copenhagen presents two rare works by the peace-loving and often overlooked Baroque master Georg Muffat – a true bridge-builder between French, German, and Italian styles and a devoted admirer of Corelli. From here, we continue to two of Telemann’s surprising and imaginative concertos for four violins – without basso continuo! – which challenge both form and expectations.
Next, the program features two works by Vivaldi, where double the soloists also means double the drama and intensity – a concerto for two violins and one for two cellos. The evening concludes with Bach’s iconic 3rd Brandenburg Concerto – a Concerto Grosso without designated soloists, where the entire ensemble shines in full force.
