Dear all.
I know I have been a bit absent here recently, but here I am, back with you. I am anxiously awaiting playing some shows again. Before embarking on my tour with music from my recent album, you can catch me playing with Nikolai Hess during the Jazz festival in Brønshøj on Saturday the 5th. This being my only show near Copenhagen this summer, saving the steam for VEGA in September. If you are in Aarhus, I will be spending 4 days celebrating Billie Holiday with The Aarhus Jazz orchestra during the festival there, from the 15-18th of July. The shows are free for all. More info here: https://www.musikhuset.dk/kalender/aarhus-jazz-orchestra-feat-kira-skov
But do come join us for the upcoming shows on the tour around Denmark starting mid September! You can find your tickets here:
And just because.. Of course you deserve another song, I have added another little unfished recording a from a few years back. It think it has some summervibes although not entirely finished.
Sending much love to you all!

I livet. I kunsten.
En søgen efter det sted indeni, som ikke er præget af alt det, vi møder.
Distraktioner. Hæmninger. Forvirring.
Men under alt det—et rent sted. Noget upåvirket. Noget urørt.
Når jeg hører den her sang, bliver jeg rørt over hvor meget jeg kan savne dét sted.
Inspirationen.
We’ve chosen not to play in Denmark as a quartet this time around — but this summer we will be playing in Denmark with Teitur. And we’re heading to Tórshavn! Super excited to share our Common music from The record Kvæði with the Faroese audience.
After that, we’re off to Germany — to some of the places we’ve played many times before.
Sep 25 – Feinkost Lampe, Hannover (DE)
We’re returning to this magical little basement with colorful lights and room for just 50 people. You don’t make much money there — but the vibe? Hard to march. Honestly, we almost made it a rule for ourselves: we have to play Feinkost Lampe when touring in Germany. There’s always something special that happens in that close, intimate space. We love choosing the small rooms too — they create a different kind of connection than the bigger stages and Festivals (which we’ll also be playing).
It’s also part of getting a closer connection with your audience: returning to the places where it resonates. That’s how listeners become fans. And visa versa. This year, we’re playing a show organized by one of those very fans — someone who came to an early show and is now a true superfan. Huge thanks to Stephanie. This is what it’s all about. 💛
Sep 27 – Burg Vischering, Lüdinghausen (DE)
Yes, it’s a castle. On an island. In a moat. We can’t wait.
If you’re coming to any of the shows, drop a comment here — we’d love to know!
Aelva has been out for a week, and it’s been truly heartwarming to receive all your feedback, messages, and comments. Thanks so much for listening and sharing - it means a lot!
It’s been an interesting challenge to make singles out of this album, which is actually very much a through-composed whole. All the pieces are connected, so releasing them individually feels a bit like publishing a single chapter from a novel. Some context is inevitably missing and the task became: how do we make these tracks work on their own, outside the full structure?
The last several Afenginn albums have leaned toward long-form album-format, where the idea of “tracks” or “singles” doesn’t always make sense. Movements I is no different in that regard, but we still wanted to explore what could happen if we treated the material as standalone releases. So, we ended up with no less than four singles - and each one gets its own alternate version, which we call Close-Up Versions.
The idea behind the Close-Up versions was to zoom in on specific layers or moods within the piece - isolate certain instruments, textures, or energies. Not all of them turned out that way, though. Sometimes something else stepped forward once we started pulling the pieces apart.
Now the first one is out: Aelva (Close-Up Version).
It offers a darker, more rhythm-driven take on the original. The 11/8 pulse is reimagined through a deep four-on-the-floor beat, shifting the focus toward physicality and tension. It's more intimate, hypnotic - drawing out the emotional undercurrents through a tighter, more immersive mix.
Both tracks are on the Aelva release from today on:
