Glockenblumen - Rune Thorsteinsson Patchwork & Copenhagen Phil

About Glockenblumen
Glockenblumen was originally written for my trio Body Rhythm Factory, together with Malene Brask and Peter Stavrum.
Back then, Malene played glockenspiel, Peter created beautiful water sounds, and I â for the first time â tried combining keyboard and percussion đ
When we revisited the piece with Copenhagen Phil and arranger Benjamin de Murashkin, it truly blossomed. The music takes its time, opening and closing with moments where only the trio plays and improvises. The main theme appears three times, growing and evolving through different orchestrations and featured instruments. Benjamin also added a brand-new C section.
Malene really shines in this version â both as a soloist on glockenspiel and clarinet, and through all the subtle, flavorful percussion textures she adds on log drum, bells, woodblocks, and kalimba, enhanced with delay and reverse effects.
Stefan brings some lovely touches too â from his creative fills in the water basin at the beginning to the intricate 16th-note finger work on the snare drum in the final groove.
You can watch the full concert release on my Sleeve profile under âArtist Backstageâ â for just 20 DKK.
Bonus: A short clip of the original Glockenblumen version appears at the start of the video â a school concert teaser with Body Rhythm Factory from way back in 2013.
