    The Clarke Hall Sessions story

    CelticSoul

When I had the opportunity to rent the historic Clarke Memorial Hall at a reduced rate, my intention was to record live performance video for promotion. I then discovered that this local landmark near my home was where my in-laws had first met at a music festival 70 years ago. The space suddenly took on a new significance and things unfolded from there, with a kind of magic. Juno-nominated audio engineer Dave Vanderploeg brought in studio recording gear to capture the beautiful acoustics of the century old community hub. Juno Award-winning musicians Justin Abedin on electric guitar, Sean O' Connor on whistle, flute and saxophones, and me on my acoustic guitar, set out to capture a group of songs live off the floor in one freewheeling take. As we listened back to the afternoon's performances, it dawned on everyone that something special had happened. These 12 tracks became my 5th full-length release, "The Clarke Hall Sessions". The unrepeatable spontaneity and creative energy of this collection includes 7 previously unreleased songs, 4 reinterpretations of fan favourites and a cool Celtic-flavoured cover of Van Morrison's "Into The Mystic.” You could say that this album is my "Trinity Sessions" - capturing what is most important to me about music, the songs and playing live.  Listen to the album and check out live videos for each song here.  Meet you in the music!

When David Leask rented the historic Clarke Memorial Hall, his intention was to record video of some live performances for promotion and web content. Juno-nominated audio engineer Dave Vanderploeg brought in some studio recording gear to capture the beautiful acoustics of the century old community hub. Armed with just an acoustic guitar, along with Juno Award-winning musicians Justin Abedin with his electric guitar and Sean O' Connor with a whistle, flute and a couple of saxophones, they set out to capture a group of songs, raw, live and in the moment. The 12 songs - a rich mix of country Americana & Celtic soul - were recorded live off the floor in one freewheeling take. As they listened back to the afternoon's performances, it dawned on everyone that some magic had been captured. These 12 tracks became David's 5th full-length release, "The Clarke Hall Sessions". Crackling with unrepeatable spontaneity and creative energy, this collection includes 7 previously unreleased songs, 4 reinterpretations of fan favourites and a cool Celtic-flavoured cover of Van Morrison's "Into The Mystic". In what could be described as David's "Trinity Sessions", the music captures not just his diversity and quality as a songwriter but his essence as a highly seasoned performer. ** Check out the extras section for videos of each live performance. **

Happy New Year from Copenhagen Music Academy

    Happy New Year everyone ✨

Thank you for being part of the Copenhagen Music Academy community.

CMA is growing nicely now to be what I hoped it would be - a place for music producers who want real craft, solid skills, and genuine progress.

Over the past year, we were really able to take full advantage of what a live recording studio can offer — for example when we recorded the band Anomy with students from the Advanced Pro course (check it here).

2026 is about going deeper - listening more, making stronger decisions, and creating music that actually lasts.

I’m really looking forward to meeting all of you who’ve signed up for the upcoming courses.

    All the best,

Boe (... and 4 year old Birk :-))

    A journey "Underneath"

I read a book called the Music Lesson by the famous bass player Victor Wooten. It made me very curious about deepening my relationship with music and with mystery. That curiosity lead me to “Vixcamps”, a five-day “Spirit of Music” camp west of Nashville that changed my relationship with music forever. It sent me, after 8 years since my last recording, on a journey “Underneath” - a creative adventure to hunt down and record an eclectic and colourful group of songs that seemed to want to hang out together.  I was very blessed to have the amazing Juno Award-winning Justin Abedin come on board and help me produce this record, as well as Grammy-winning Chad Carlson who mixed the record. It might just be my most eclectic record yet and it’s a bit of a crazy ride. Listen to the record and check out some extra video content here.  Meet you in the music!

It certainly get 5 stars out of 5 stars. All songs are well written and superbly sung by David." John Gavin, Atlantic Seabreeze “Having won numerous accolades for his songs, Leask co-wrote 11 of the album’s 13 tracks. Songs such as the title track, “Underneath”, “Photosynthesis”, and “One Second Look” shed refreshingly mature perspectives on personal relationships. Others like, “Freedom by the Barrel”, “Ready to Buy”, and “Breathing” go even deeper to tackle and examine social conditions such as war mongering, rampant consumerism and the struggle for peace amidst chaos. “Highway Home" really stood out for me. Run Fox Run...into our hearts

    FoxTrot

In 1980, after losing a leg to cancer, Terry Fox began an epic cross-country journey to raise money for cancer research. After 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (a marathon a day), Terry was forced to stop the run outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario. The cancer had appeared in his lungs. Terry passed away on June 28, 1981. He was only 22, yet his selflessness, his compassion and his tenacity were superhuman and belied his years. As an immigrant from Scotland, I didn't know much about the Terry Fox story but the more I learned about this amazing young man, the more compelled I was to capture his story in song. As I was writing the song, I kept coming back to Terry's unique "foxtrot" double hop I had heard on a documentary. So I incorporated the unique cadence and began building my recording around the sound of Terry's running. The result is "Run Fox Run", a song that has travelled on the inspiration of Terry Fox to “Terry Fox Runs” as far away as Vietnam, Taiwan and India. "His spirit runs farther and stronger each day....." Listen to the song here
