Selling a Release
Take Money Before the Record Is Out, and Point People Wherever Else It Lives
A release page used to hold one thing: the record. It can now sell before that record is out, point a listener at wherever else you're on, and hand a buyer the physical copy.
All three sit in the release editor, and none of them changes how the record itself works.
Sell It Before It's Out
Turn on Sell before release and fans can buy a record nobody can hear yet. They pay the day you announce it, and it unlocks at the date and time you set... in their library, on its own, the moment that arrives.
The switch sits under the release date. Turning it on reveals a Release date & time picker, and that picker is the moment everything opens, down to the hour, in your own timezone.
Where the buy button usually is, a fan sees Pre-order and your price. Once they buy it reads Ordered, and the page says the day it's out.
Good for:
- Announcing a record and taking orders the same day
- Giving the people who follow you closely a reason to act now
- Anything with a physical run, where knowing the number early matters
A few things worth knowing:
- Your clips keep playing while a pre-sale runs, so people can hear what they're paying for. Turn that off in Play clips before release, just below in the same row.
- Publishing sends a Pre-order email rather than the usual new-release one. On release day your buyers hear from you again... the record is out, and it's already in their library.
- Selling ahead of release needs a paid plan, the same as selling anything else.
- Sleeve takes nothing on a pre-order, the same as everything else you sell.
Point People Where They Already Listen
A release page can list the other places to hear the record. Paste a link and Sleeve names the service for you.
Where else to hear this sits in the release editor, under the release's own details. What you add shows up on the release page as Listen elsewhere, under the tracklist, in the order you set.
Good for:
- Meeting a fan where they already have an account
- Older records that landed on services you had no say over
- Anything you want found rather than only sold
This one needs no paid plan. Pointing a listener somewhere else is free on every plan.
List Where to Buy the Record Itself
Vinyl, a CD, a shop carrying the record rather than a link to stream it.
Physical copies sits beside Where else to hear this in the same editor. Point it wherever the record is actually sold, including a shop you don't run. Those links show up directly under the buy button, so someone who has decided to own the record sees both ways to do it without scrolling.
Good for:
- A pressing sold through a distributor or a label store
- Print-on-demand and merch partners
- A record shop that stocks you
Also free on every plan.
How to Use It
- Open a release in your dashboard.
- For a pre-sale, turn on Sell before release and set the release date and time.
- For streaming, paste links under Where else to hear this.
- For physical, paste links under Physical copies.
- Save. Everything appears on the release page immediately.
You can use any one of these on its own. A record can list streaming links and never be sold; a pre-sale can run with no physical copies at all.
